The year-long migrant crisis befalling Europe continues to develop, as thousands more reach the continent and others move deeper within its borders. With the news that Austria and Germany had opened its borders, thousands of migrants began departing Hungary on foot Sunday.
Reuters published a photo essay from September 1 that showed people move towards Austria from Hungary:
Over 4,000 migrants started the journey to Austria during the weekend. The government of Hungary has sternly warned that allowing millions of migrants into Europe without a clear naturalization policy may result in chaos, and has called for the European Union to take a firmer stance against human smugglers.
Others attempted to use trains to make the trip. Dramatic photos show dozens of migrants–including many women and children–struggling to cram onto trains out of Hungary.
At least 13,000 migrants crossed the border over the weekend.
