In a meeting with American Jewish leaders on Tuesday, President Obama reportedly predicted that if Congress were to reject the nuclear accord that his administration signed with the Iranian regime, the result would entail Tehran’s proxy, Hezbollah, firing rockets at Tel Aviv, according to multiple reports citing sources from the meeting with the President.
Greg Rosenbaum, who serves as the chair of the National Jewish Democratic Council–one of the few Jewish groups that supports the Iran deal–said that Obama again forwarded the much-pushed false dichotomy that there are only two ways to stop a nuclear Iran: through war or through negotiations.
The President has continued to push the war versus peace narrative throughout the congressional review period, saying in mid July, “There are only two alternatives here. Either Iran getting a nuclear weapon is resolved diplomatically through negotiation, or it is resolved through force, through war.”
President Obama told American Jewish leaders that if the deal fails, America may be forced to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities.
And Iran will be forced to retaliate – against Israel, President Obama claimed. “But the result of such a strike won’t be war with Iran,” he reportedly said. “They will fight this asymmetrically. That means more support for terrorism, more Hezbollah rockets falling on Tel Aviv,” he added, according to Rosenbaum.
Opponents of the deal have argued that Hezbollah, which was created and continues to be financed by Iran, will benefit greatly from unfrozen assets that Tehran is set to acquire following sanctions relief.
Obama predicted, according to the source, “I can assure that Israel will bear the brunt of the asymmetrical response that Iran will have to a military strike on its nuclear facilities.”
Israeli leadership remains unanimously opposed to the nuclear deal, with even Isaac Herzog, the leader of Israel’s left-wing Labor movement and a top rival of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, united in opposition to the Iran deal. Netanyahu has warned that the deal will ensure war in the Middle East, due to the fact that it allows the potential for hundreds of billions of dollars to fall into the hands of Iran’s terror group proxies. The Israeli Prime Minister said in an address to the American Jewish community on Tuesday that the Iran deal will guarantee a more dangerous Middle East, and encouraged viewers to debate the merits of the “bad deal” and not back down to attempts at shutting down discussion.
When it comes to engaging the dictatorship in Tehran, President Obama’s latest address to American Jewish leaders shows that he apparently continues to believe he only has two options as commander in chief: either surrender $150 billion dollars to the world’s foremost state-sponsor of terrorism in exchange for a “commitment” to reduce their uranium stockpile and collaborate on regional issues, or launch a full-scale war against said regime.
