In a video released by the Egyptian Armed Forces, wounded Egyptian soldiers speak about the recent attacks in the Sinai.
Speaking to a retired senior Egyptian military official, he stated that the terrorists in the Sinai were trying to occupy the area, a tactic used in Iraq and Syria by Islamic State. “The terrorists wanted to raise the flag of Islamic State and occupy the city of Sheikh Zuweid, but they didn’t succeed.”
He said that some of the wounded terrorists escaped through a tunnel to Gaza. Since the removal of Islamist President Morsi, the Egyptian military have launched an extensive military campaign to eradicate terrorism in the Sinai Province. The Egyptian Army announced in May that they had uncovered 521 tunnel entrances from Gaza into the Sinai Peninsula over the last 6 months.
