According to the St. Lucia News Online, Islamic State hackers were able to seize control of the official website for the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (commonly abbreviated as “SVG”) in the Lesser Antilles.
A computer expert consulted by the news site described the attack as “preventable” and said all of the government email has likely been compromised, along with sensitive information from numerous government agencies.
The government web portal, www.gov.vc, was replaced with the image of a machine gunner in a pickup truck with the message, “Hacked By Moroccanwolf — Islamic State.”
“US and NATO Forces are involved in Organised butchery of Human race since it’s [sic] inception,” the hacker declared on the pirated government website. “They overthrow governments of sovereign nations and they undermine, threaten, refuse to recognise and seek to destroy democratically elected governments like they are in , Syria , Iraq , Gaza, Palestine. They support dictators as long as they are fulfilling US, EU & NATO interest in the region like they did in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.”
“You speak of Freedom of speech and freedom of expression but you remain silent in the face of a people desire [sic] to seek freedom to exist – unless those people are Israeli Zionists! Hypocrisy of this magnitude will bring the chickens home to roost and not peace and security as is your mantra!” the message concluded.
Caribbean360 writes that the SVG government is working to restore normal website operations, having evidently taken the entire site offline to squelch the hacker’s message.
