A female police officer has been shot dead by man wearing a bullet-proof vest in southern Paris this morning. Police had been called to the scene of a traffic accident at 7.15am this morning, according to local media reports, when one of the divers opened fire on the woman.
Sky News reports that armed police are at the scene, but the attack is not thought to be related to the shooting at Charlie Hebdo this morning.
iTele said that both victims were seen lying at the scene near Porte de Chatillon, while Le Parisien reported that two shooters were involved, one of whom was seen running towards Metro station Chatillon-Montrouge while the other fled by car.
The second victim, who has been seriously injured, is thought to be a council worker, possibly a street cleaner.
One of the suspects has now been detained, but the other remains at large.
