Fox News contributor and foreign affairs analyst Lisa Daftari delivered a stern message of condemnation for nations that implement Sharia Law during a speech at the Iranian Women’s Organization’s (IWO) annual gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel last week.
Daftari also reprimanded the hotel’s controversial owner, the Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah, who has called for the strict implementation of Sharia Law in his own nation. In May of this year, Brunei became the first East Asian country to formally adopt the harsh set of Islamic penal codes which includes punishments such as death by stoning, public flogging, and dismemberment.
Daftari was honored at the hotel on December 14 by receiving the IWO’s Maliheh Kashfi award for enhancing the image of Iranian women as a result of her excellent work in investigative journalism. During her acceptance speech, she took the opportunity to reiterate the extent of the hapless circumstances facing women, children, and minorities who have fallen victim to the grave injustices that are inherent in Sharia Law in the Middle East and Africa.
In an email to Breitbart News, Daftari expressed that she had initially been conflicted about whether to accept the award and attend the event at the hotel, because it’s owner is a prime violator of human rights. However, she decided to accept and instead used the opportunity to criticize Sultan Bolkiah and other nations who follow in suit with these mass human rights violations through their implementation of Sharia Law.
The following is an excerpt of the speech she gave, posted on her website:
As we struggle to define, to question, to reevaluate, to map out the goals and paths we want to take in life, we watch as parents in Africa struggle with whether to send their young daughters to school for fear that they should be kidnapped or raped; As women in Iran bravely took off their hejabs to pose pictures on Facebook to only get acid thrown in their faces; As the women of Egypt took to Tahrir Square to show the world that they no longer will accept a male-dominated society and are then told to go back to the kitchen; As the women of Saudi Arabia fight to do nothing more than drive and go out alone, and lets [sic] not forget that as we sit here in this hotel, owned by the Sultan of Brunei, only months ago protests and boycotts led by celebrities such as Jay Leno and Ellen DeGenneres, reminded us that while there’s an argument to be made about supporting the employees and local economy of the hotel, we cannot and will not forget the citizens of that country or any others where Sharia Law has been implemented, stripping its citizens of basic human rights.
Sharia Law calls for punishing homosexuality with death by stoning. It also subjugates women and holds men in far higher regard, almost exclusively across the board.
