A video uploaded on YouTube shows Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) militants laughing and joking while purchasing female Yazidi slaves. One man exclaims the day is “slave market day.”
“Today is distribution day God willing,” said the unidentified man in a white hat. “Each one [man] takes his share.”
This man laughs as he looks at the man to his right.
“I swear man I am searching for a girl,” he responded. “I hope I find one.”
The man on the left also has a response.
“Today is the day of (female) slaves and we should have our share!” he said.
In the background, a man yells, “Where is my Yazidi girl? Where is my Yazidi girl?!”
The man in the white hat explains how the rules of the “auction.”
“Whoever wants to sell his slave, whoever wants to give his slave as a present,” he said. “Everyone is free to do what he wants with his share. Whoever wants to sell, I can buy my brothers. Whoever wants to sell his slave, I buy. Whoever wants to sell his own slave, I buy. And if you want to give her as a gift, also I take her.”
Another man asks the group who wants to sell and buy. The man in the white hat said he could buy a slave for a pistol. However, eye color and looks make a difference in price.
“The price differs if she has blue eyes,” he said. “I will sell her for a Glock! If she is 15 years old, I have to check her, check her teeth. If she doesn’t have teeth, why would I want her?”
A man suggests dentures, but the man said he does not want her if she does not have teeth.
Arabic channel Al Aan TV translated the video. The station admitted the video could not be independently verified, but said the video was shot in Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city. The jihadists invaded and captured the city in June. They moved onto cities and towns occupied by Yazidis, a religion from ancient Mesopotamia. The jihadists consider these people devil-worshippers. The militants told people to either convert to Islam or die, killed 500 of them, buried some alive, and took hundreds of girls as slaves.
One woman phoned a Kurdish Peshmerga fighter to beg them and the West to designate as their next target the brothel where she being held. She said the terrorists “raped her 30 times in just a few hours.” She wants the brothel bombed to kill the jihadists and end the women’s misery as sex slaves.
Escaped Yazidi sex slaves told their stories to the media. A 14-year-old girl, known as “Narin,” told journalist Mohammed A. Salih she and her friend were given to two Islamic State soldiers as wives or concubines in Fallujah. The two girls managed to escape when their “husbands” left for business. A 17-year-old girl said several different men raped her numerous times. The women often begged the men to kill them.
