Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid sent a series of tweets on October 2, unintentionally giving away his location in Sindh, Pakistan.
Quartz reported that “Mujahid quickly denied that he was in Pakistan” once the location was pinpointed.
BBC News reported that Twitter’s location indicator was part of an “enemy plot,” and not accurate. He said he was in Afghanistan when he sent the tweets.
Mujahid explained: “My Twitter account has been manipulated – as part of weak efforts of enemy plot, it showed that I am based in Sindh of Pakistan. I call this attempt as fake and shame [sic].”
He tweeted: “The enemy’s fake act has been exposed, and with full confidence, I can say that I am in my own country.”
