ISIS supporters are using chalk drawings and bumper stickers to recruit new fighters and “extend [the group’s] influence” into border regions of Afghanistan and Peshawar, Pakistan.
The group is also distributing pamphlets calling for support in the “struggle for the establishment of an Islamic caliphate.” The pamphlet explains that ISIS is now Islamic State (IS).
According to the Express Tribune, “a number of hardline groups operating in Pakistan and Afghanistan have already announced support for [IS].” And “stalwarts of Saudi Arabia-backed Salafi Taliban” like Abdul Rahim Muslim Dost and Maulvi Abdul Qatar have already come out in support of “the self-styled caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.”
The New York Times reported that Dost was held in Guantanamo Bay as prisoner 561 until he being transferred to Afghan authorities in 2005.
On September 3, Breitbart News reported that Taliban allies Hezb-e-Islami were also considering joining IS.
Hezb-e-Islami Commander Mirwais said Muslims everywhere “are thirsty for a caliphate” and his group is watching “to see if [IS meets] the requirements for a Islamic caliphate.” If they do, the two will merge.
