The United Nations Relief Works Agency, the organization of the world body dedicated solely to Palestinian ‘refugees,’ announced that the 20 Hamas terror rockets found hidden inside a UNWRA run school on Thursday have been returned to Hamas.
In its current war against Israeli civilians, Hamas has fired more than 2,000 missiles against the Jewish state. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by taxpayers from the European Union and the United States. Both the EU and the US have clear and strict rules outlawing the provision of material support to Hamas which both entities regard as a terror organization. Presumably, missiles would constitute material support.
But as Evelyn Gordon reports that is not the end of the story. Not only did UNRWA return deadly terror weapons to a deadly terror group, but that act is being defended by an unnamed Western diplomat who claimed the missiles were returned not directly but rather to the new Hamas-Fatah “Unity Government”, which the diplomat claims is run by Fatah, not Hamas. Of course, there is not a single member of the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority in Gaza, nor a single PA soldier or policeman stationed there. “Of course,” says Gordon “The diplomat was simply contorting facts to avoid admitting that UNRWA gave lethal weapons to Hamas.”
Why and how the Republican-led US Congress continues to appropriate funds for UNRWA, let alone the Palestinian Authority, is a question that has not recently been addressed to House Speaker John Boehner.
