Pakistan has dropped charges against FBI agent Joel Cox, who was arrested under “anti-terrorism” laws after 15 bullets were found in his luggage in Karachi, Pakistan.
Police told a Pakistani court “they were dropping the case [against Cox]” because the agent had authorization to “carry arms for ‘personal protection.'”
According to BBC News, Cox “was held under anti-terrorism laws after security staff found… [the] bullets for a 9mm handgun in his luggage ahead of a flight from Karachi to Islamabad.” The U.S. government explained that Cox “was on a temporary mission in Pakistan” for “a police reforms program.”
The BBC reported that “American agents operating inside Pakistan have been the cause of strained relations in the past and have fueled anti-U.S. feeling in the country.”
