China Accuses U.S. of 'Provocative Actions' in South China Sea

On May 13th China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying accused the U.S. “provocative actions” in the South China Sea.

According to Xinhuanet.com, Hua also said: “There is indeed a country taking provocative actions in the South China Sea, but this country is not China.”

Hua added: “We expect the United States to reflect on its acts. If indeed it expects the Pacific Ocean to be pacific, it should think what role it can play in maintaining regional peace and security.” 

These comments came just “hours after the telephone conversation between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and U.S. Second of State John Kerry.” Some speculate that the “provocation actions” China references are tied to the security pact the U.S. signed with the Philippines on April 28th.
