Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS) joined the American Legion and other veterans groups Tuesday in calling for the ouster of President Barack Obama’s Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki in the wake of recent revelations that up to 40 veterans may have died waiting for medical treatments that never came from veterans’ facilities.
“I ask the secretary to submit his resignation and I ask President (Barack) Obama to accept that resignation,” said Moran during a Senate speech.
Obama backed Shinseki on Monday and defended his Veteran Affairs Department’s record.
As Breitbart News reported last year, the number of veterans waiting for disability compensation has increased 2000% under Obama, according to a Center for Investigative Reporting review of internal VA documents. Moreover, the Department of Veterans Affairs doled out millions of taxpayer-funded bonuses to workers for “excellent” performance despite the fact that in 2012 almost three out of four appealed veteran claims were incorrectly processed.
The VA’s inspector general has promised to launch probes into a whistleblower’s claims that 40 veterans died waiting for health care appointments.
