A day after four people died and 16 were injured in the second shooting in five years at Fort Hood, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said that troops needed to be armed on American bases.
“Prayers for everyone at Ft. Hood. They defend and protect us,” she tweeted on Thursday. “The military must be able to defend themselves with arms.”
The shooter reportedly purchased his gun off the base and brought it into the gun-free zone. When an armed female officer approached him after his rampage, the gunman then turned the gun on himself.
As Breitbart News’ AWR Hawkins has reported, military bases were not always gun-free zones, but that changed as soon as President Bill Clinton came into office. As Hawkins noted, “thanks to Clinton, citizens who join the military to use guns to defend liberty abroad cannot practice their constitutional right to keep and bear arms while on active duty at home.”
In 2009, Palin had planned a visit to Fort Hood for her Going Rogue book tour before Nadal Hassan killed 13 people and injured more than 30. After the tragedy, officials from Fort Hood called Palin and asked her to go ahead with the previously planned book tour.
