D.C. Snow May Cancel AIPAC Lobbying

A source indicated that pro-Israel activists gathering in Washington for the annual Policy Conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) may have to cancel their traditional mass lobbying event on the third day of the event. A major snowstorm is expected to arrive Sunday night through Monday, meaning many members of Congress would not return to Washington by Tuesday, making lobbying a moot exercise.

There was no word about possible impacts on the arrival of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is due to address the conference on Tuesday.

The annual lobbying push by AIPAC brings thousands of local activists directly to Representatives and Senators to lobby on behalf of the U.S.-Israel alliance. This year’s lobbying effort was meant to shore up congressional support for bipartisan sanctions bills against Iran.
