The European Union announced they will impose sanctions against Ukraine officials responsible for the deadly force used against protesters in Kiev.
EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said they want the opposition and President Viktor Yanukovich to talk, but it must start with Yanukovich.
The United States Department of State already issued 20 visa bans on Ukrainian officials and issued a Ukraine travel alert. Protests have been in Independence Square since late November after Yanukovich turned down an EU trade deal in favor of a $15 billion bailout from Russia. Violence escalated on Tuesday and the situation continues to worsen despite a truce between Yanukovich and opposition leaders.
The death toll varies between media outlets. CNN reported as many as 100 dead as of Thursday morning.
