Suicide Car Bomb Attack Kills U.S. Soldier in Southern Afghanistan

A U.S. soldier was killed in southern Afghanistan on Monday following a suicide car bomb attack by terrorists.  

The U.S./NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) reported today that one of its service members “died following a coordinated suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack by enemy forces in southern Afghanistan.”  

ISAF did not reveal the identity or nationality of the deceased soldier.  

However, a Pentagon spokesperson told Breitbart News that the service member who was killed is from the U.S. No further identification information was available at the time.   

This fatality brings the total number of U.S. deaths in Afghanistan this year to at least seven.  

According to a Pentagon tally, as of Jan. 17, there were a total of 2,170 U.S. military deaths in the ongoing Afghanistan war, which started on October 7, 2001.  

Most of the American fatalities throughout the war have been combat-related.
