TRIPOLI, Libya
A security official in Libya says a car bombing on the outskirts of the eastern city of Benghazi has killed at least six people.
The official says the explosion early Sunday morning targeted an area where people stop at a military checkpoint before entering the city. He says the blast wounded several people.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief journalists, gave no further details about the motive for the attack or who was behind it.
Violence has rocked Libya over the past two years after the end of the eight-month civil war that toppled and killed longtime dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
Benghazi, the birthplace of the 2011 uprising, is a stronghold of militias with roots in anti-Gadhafi rebel brigades.
