Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), a member of the House Oversight Committee, told Breitbart News the Committee is quietly “making progress every day” with its investigation of the administration’s handling of the terrorist attack against the U.S. consulate and CIA annex in Benghazi last year.
According to Chaffetz, the Committee has taken more than a dozen depositions.
“Over 1500 pages–50 hours of interview. There’s a lot of information out there that has not yet been released publicly,” Chaffetz said. The Utah Republican does not know when the next public hearing will be but remarked that the witnesses who will be called will be persons who were on the ground in Benghazi when the attack happened.
In the meantime, Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee Mike McCaul (R-TX) applauded U.S. special forces for their successful capture of a suspected al Qaeda terrorist in Libya but questioned why the terror suspects who attacked the U.S. compound in Benghazi have not yet been brought to justice.
McCaul told ABC News, “I think once again we saw our special forces do a tremendous job bringing this terrorist… to justice. I wish we could see the same thing happen with the suspects in the Benghazi case. We still have terrorists at large that have yet to be brought to justice, that are responsible for killing our ambassador and our foreign service officers.”
The FBI, according to ABC News, posted images on its website of about 30 people the bureau claims to have been on the ground during the attack and about whom the law enforcement agency is “seeking information.” CNN apparently was able to interview one of the suspects in May, but no arrests have yet been made. In September, The New York Times reported individual suspects were identified and indicted in the U.S., but the Libyan government pushed back on efforts to arrest the suspects.
