Albright: 'Hard for Me to Believe' Anyone Worse than Assad in Syria

On CBS’s Face the Nation, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright claimed that no regime in Syria can be worse than Bashar al-Assad’s.

“It’s very hard for me to believe that there could be something worse, frankly,” she said. “I think that it’s going to be awhile before we find stability there.”

She said Syria has been an “extremely difficult” issue and a “fast-changing” situation. Albright mentioned that the ultimate goal in Syria would be to have a transitional government without Assad. 

Albright then said she thought “things are pretty bad” there and conceded she was “not exactly sure” how Syria will play out–before adding that the situation would “only get worse” if “we don’t do anything.”
