Various conservative organizations have banded together on a social media campaign designed to memorialize the four Americans murdered in the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, nearly a year ago on Sept. 11, 2012.
The campaign demands accountability from President Barack Obama’s administration and an open, complete investigation into the scandal surrounding the attack, something that has yet to happen as the first anniversary of the terrorist attack nears.
“As we begin our march to honor the four Americans who lost their lives on 9/11/12 in Benghazi, let us never forget some ran to the sound of guns, while others ran to bed,” former Rep. Allen West (R-FL) said on behalf of the coalition in a release provided exclusively to Breitbart News.
The coalition is asking grassroots activists across America to apply a “Twibbon,” or a small image of a ribbon for avatars on Twitter and Facebook, that they hope will become a symbol of the rallying cry for justice for the four Americans murdered in the terrorist attack: Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Information Management Officer Sean Smith, and security officers former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty.
In its press release, the coalition of leaders pushing for accountability via the social media campaign released six steps for grassroots activists across America to get involved:
6 Easy Steps to Remember the Benghazi 4 using your Facebook and Twitter Account:
1) Visit www.RememberBenghazi4.com
2) Click “Add to Twitter” and/or “Add to Facebook”
3) When the pop-up window appears click to “Authorize App”
4) You will be prompted to position and resize the ribbon on your profile picture
5) Click “Add Twibbon” to complete
6) Help spread the word to recruit others!
In a release, the group’s members said they “will encourage their fans, members, and supporters to ‘Remember the Benghazi 4’ by adding the Twibbon to their social media pages with the #Benghazi hashtag.
“Additional organizations are encouraged to sign on. September 11 will mark the one year anniversary of the deadly terrorist attack that took the lives of Amb. Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty, and Tyrone Woods.”
“According to the coalition, to this day, Congress and the media have failed to hold the Obama Administration fully accountable for its failures leading up to, during, and after this deadly assault,” they said. “The administration’s perpetually-changing narrative deserves merciless scrutiny, and President Obama must be held accountable for what he has cynically dismissed as a ‘phony scandal.'”
Larry Ward, the political director of participant group Special Operations Speaks, told Breitbart News that this campaign represents an opportunity to push for accountability on the Benghazi scandal. “SOS represents 1,000 Special Operations Veterans who have signed on to the longest petition ever presented to Congress to form a Watergate-style Select Committee,” Ward said. “These men are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve this goal. SOS encourages every American who cares about getting to the truth about the Benghazi Massacre, to display the Remember the Benghazi 4 twibbon until a Select Committee is formed by Congress.”
Groups involved in helping the campaign include Let Freedom Ring, the Center for Military Readiness, the Center for Security Policy, Veterans for a Strong America, Judicial Watch, Concerned Women for America, Constituting America, Tea Party Patriots, Secure America Now, ACT! for America, Franklin Center’s Citizen Watchdog, the Gatestone Institute, The Conservative Caucus, Special Operations Speaks, Christians for a Sustainable Economy and Emerging Corruption. Individual conservative leaders who have pledged their support to the cause include former Congressman Col. Allen West, Dan Bongino, Laura Ingraham, Hugh Hewitt, Lars Larson, Monica Crowley, Anita MonCrief, Ginni Thomas, Ann Stone, Brad Thor, John McLaughlin and Kevin Freeman.
