The terrorists who helped execute the Benghazi attacks that resulted in the deaths of four Americans are now training Syrian Islamist rebel groups.
Veteran intelligence reporter Bill Gertz says earlier this month U.S. intelligence agencies uncovered new evidence that the al Qaeda-linked Ansar al-Sharia terrorist group is now training Syrian rebels in terrorist training camps. Gertz says the jihadist training camps have been in operation at least since May and “are part of a network that funnels foreign fighters to Syrian rebel groups.”
Ansar al-Sharia Brigade in Benghazi was created in early 2012 in the wake of Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi’s ouster.
According to Gertz’s sources:
U.S. intelligence agencies believe Libya has produced more jihadistrebels for the Syrian conflict than any other outside nation. Some 20percent of foreign jihadists in Syria came from Libya and that severalhundred are currently in the country.
Over 100 Libyans were reported killed in Syrian fighting for suchrebel groups as Al-Nusra Front, the Islamic State in Iraq and theLevant, Umma Brigade, Muhajirin Brigade, and Ahrar al-Sham, an Al-Nusraoffshoot.
White House sources are now reporting that President Barack Obama may issue a limited American missile attack on Syria as early as Thursday.
