Egypt’s new 34-member cabinet has “prominent figures from the country’s liberal and secular forces,” including three women and three Christians, but zero Islamists nor any “ministers from [Mohammed] Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood.”

Morsi supporters are not happy.

The AP reports that “several hundred” Morsi supporters are protesting outside Egypt’s Cabinet building. These protesters say the new cabinet is “illegitimate,” and they continue to demand Morsi “be reinstated” as president.

At the same time, European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton is in Cairo dealing with the interim cabinet as a legitimate government.

The new cabinet was sworn in on July 16.
