Boko Haram Denies Truce, Vows to Continue Killing

After the Nigerian government announced the militant Islamist group Boko Haram agreed to a cease-fire, the leader of the group Abubaker Shekau denied the agreement and vowed to continue killing.

“Let me assure you that we will not enter into any truce with these infidels,” Shekau said. “We will not enter into any truce with the Nigerian government.”

Boko Haram murdered 42 school children and teachers at a boarding school in Yobe, Nigeria last week.

The terrorist group released a new video on Saturday claiming they “fully support” attacks on school in northeastern Nigeria. “We support the work they did at the school, at Mamudo and Damaturu, and other attacks in other schools,” said Shekau, who wore military fatigues in the video. “We are going to burn down the schools, if they are not Islamic religious schools for Allah.”

Shekau asserted they did not target children “We don’t touch small children, we only burn the schools,” he says. “Our religion does not permit us to touch small children and women, we don’t kill children.” However, they do slaughter teachers, “School teachers who are teaching Western education? We will kill them! We will kill them!”

The northern region of Nigeria (Yobe, Adamawa and Borno) have been under a state of emergency rule as the government tries to crack down on Boko Haram’s terrorism.  The name “Boko Haram” translates as “Western Education is Sinful.” The group has been blamed for thousands of attacks and murders on churches, schools and police stations.

Boko Haram was founded in Mohammad Yusuf in 2001 with a goal of establishing Sharia law in Nigeria. They are thought to be connected to Al-Qaeda and Al Shabab.
