Although Imran Firasat was acquitted on a hate crime charge tied to his movie The Innocent Prophet, he continues to face the possibility of being deported from Spain back to Pakistan.
He warns that if that happens, he will face death under Sharia.
Firasat converted from Islam to Christianity in 2004. He had been a Muslim for 26 years when his opinion became that Islam is “not a religion” but a “political dictatorship which persecutes and teaches to persecute.” Once he began to tell Pakistanis his views on Islam, he was forced to flee for his life. Spain granted him asylum; the continuance of that asylum is the point in question at this time.
From Spain, Firasat watched the attacks on the U.S. on September 11, 2012 and was motivated to make his movie The Innocent Prophet. The intention was to give people a better insight into what he sees as the “truth” about Islam. It was because of this film that a hate crime charge was filed against him.
Throughout this process Firasat has been represented by the Legal Project of Dr. Daniel Pipe’s Middle East Forum. They are now focused on winning the deportation case, just as they did against the hate crime charge.
