As two knife-wielding Islamists stood over the body of a soldier they allegedly beheaded, a local woman began speaking with one of them, trying to convince them not to attack others. When the police arrived, the alleged terrorists apparently attacked police and then were shot.
The woman, Ingrid Loyau-Kennett, got off a bus to check the pulse of the murdered soldier. She is a mother of two, and a cub scout leader, the Daily Mail reports. The alleged attackers said to her, “We want to start a war in London tonight.” She replied, “Right now it is only you versus many people, you are going to lose, what would you like to do?” She then lay on the body of the murdered soldier to prevent further mutilation. The alleged killers reportedly told other passersby, “No many is coming near this body, only women.”
Citizens of Woolwich say they recognize one of the alleged killers, and that he spoke about politics frequently in the Woolwich town center.
Prime Minister David Cameron has said that this appears to be a terrorist incident. Home Secretary Theresa May stated, “What happened today in Woolwich was a sickening and barbaric attack. This attack was an attack on everyone in the UK. It will be condemned by people from every community.”
