In its last-ditch attempt to draw the anti-Semitic Middle East into war with Israel, Syria has now declared that it may invade Israel’s Golan Heights. Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi said that Israel had broken the 1974 ceasefire between the two nations, and accused Israel of helping the Syrian opposition kidnap UN observers – even though it is Syria that has failed to control its border. Damascus, said al-Zoubi, “has the right at this time and at any other time to deal with the Golban issue in the way the owner has the right to deal with his property, because the Golan is and has always been Syrian Arab land.
Israel annexed the Golan Heights after the 1967 war. The Golan Heights are a strategic high point overlooking the north of Israel, from which Syria had been firing ordinance into Israeli civilian centers.
“Israel must understand that it can’t take a promenade in the Syrian sky because the Syrian land and sky are not a promenade for anyone,” al-Zoubi said, probably referring to Israeli airstrikes against Iranian resources moving through Syria.
