Sarkozy Gave Obama $9,400 in Luxury Golf Gifts

President Barack Obama’s status as an avid golfer is apparently internationally known.

Newly released documents by the State Department show that former French President Nicolas Sarkozy gave President Barack Obama almost $40,000 in luxury designer gifts, including a $7,750 Hermes golf accessory bag, two Baccarat crystal golf statuettes, and a black Hermes golf travel bag worth $1,650.

Yesterday, a Government Accountability Institute report found that Obama has spent over twice as much time golfing and vacationing as he has in economic meetings throughout his presidency.

Other gifts included: Christian Dior hygiene products, his-her Dior bathrobes, and a Dior leather clutch.

First Lady Michelle Obama also received Bonpoint Paris clothes and Baccarat crystal.

The Federal Register states that the lavish gifts were accepted because “non-acceptance would cause embarrassment to donor and U.S. Government.”
