State Department Announces Increase in Syrian Aid to $210 Million

The U.S. State Dept has announced an additional $14 million in aid for Syria, bringing the total provided to $210 million.

This newest installment is described as “humanitarian aid that will provide nutrition aid for children, as well as additional emergency medical and winterization supplies to families in need inside of Syria.” 

While no explanation was provided on how these funds will be dispersed, Deputy Secretary of State William J. Burns said this money will not only go to “help 1.5 million people inside Syria [but also] hundreds of thousands who have fled to surrounding countries.” 

He explained that much of this aid will come in the form of medicines, “ready-to-use food supplements,” and “specialized drugs and supplies for 3,000 surgical interventions.” The supplements and many of the medicines are especially formulated for “young children.”
