In 2008, Obama pledged that disabled veterans applying for benefits would receive confirmation as to whether they qualified for those benefits within 125 days.
Obama said keeping such a timeline was part of “a sacred trust with out veterans.”
Fast forward to Nov. 5, 2012, the day before Obama was up for re-election, and 558,230 of 820,106 veterans waiting for answers on benefits had been waiting more than 125 days.
Did someone say something about “a sacred trust”?
There are also tens of thousands of benefits cases that have been appealed to the Veterans Appeals Board, where the average time for a decision is 883 days (more than six times the length of time Obama said disabled veterans would have to wait).
It should be noted that Rep-elect Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), ran and won on Nov. 6 in part based on her experience in the U.S. Dept of Veterans Affairs during President Obama’s first term. Taken in light of the utter inefficiency of the VA under Obama, this isn’t a great thing.
