The United States and Iran have agreed to one-on-one talks over Tehran’s nuclear program, The New York Times reported Saturday, citing officials in the administration of President Barack Obama.
The agreement is the result of secret talks between the two sides, according to the unnamed administration officials cited by the Times. Iran has insisted that such talks wait until after the US presidential election on November 6.
**UPDATE** According to Politico, the White House has denied the report.
National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor pushed back against the Times’s story.
“It’s not true that the United States and Iran have agreed to one-on-one talks or any meeting after the American elections,” he said in a statement.
