At the House Oversight Committee’s Oct. 10 hearing on security in Benghazi, Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) said the Obama admin’s attempts to blame the attacks on a YouTube video were ridiculous.
Directing his comments to Deputy Assistant Security of Diplomatic Security Charlene Lamb, who still refused to use the word “terrorism” in describing the Benghazi attacks, Kelly said, “If it waddles like a duck and it quacks like a duck, it’s a duck.”
He went on to comment on how Lamb had watched the attacks on Sept 11 and received updates from Ambassador Chris Stevens as they began to unfold, yet five days later she and the rest of the State Dept. assured Congress this was not terrorism but the result of “a 15 minute video on YouTube.”
Kelly then alluded to how some Democrat members of his committee didn’t want these things focused on so close to the presidential election:
It’s very unfortunate that terrorists don’t recognize that this is an election year. They tend to do what they want when they want to us. And when we have a weakened position around the world, and when we leave our embassies, and our consuls, and our people as unprotected as we do, and then we say, “This is terrible, because it’s 27 days before an election. Why are we bringing it up now?”
But where the heck were we before 9/11 — this 9/11? Why weren’t we questioning it then?
Kelly then pointed out the 200-plus security breaches in Libya between July 2011 and July 2012. And he made sure to say that 48 of those were in Benghazi, and two were at the very consulate that was attacked on Sept. 11, 2012.
He then asked rhetorically, “And all you can say is ‘I think it was the result of a video, that was on YouTube?'”
