Pakistan: Obama Admin Waives Requirements for Billions in Aid

The Obama administration has waived the counter-terrorism requirements for aid to Pakistan.

Now, billion of U.S. aid dollars can flow to Pakistan regardless of whether that country fights terrorism, ends it role in nuclear proliferation, or furthers democracy. The U.S. State Dept. “quietly waived” the requirements in August, and Sec. of State Clinton notified Congress of the changes in mid-Sept.

The last time Sec. Clinton bypassed the requirements and certified Pakistan for aid, it was discovered that Osama bin Laden was living in that country and that senior Pakistani military officials were supporting Islamists and jihad.

Moreover, the lion’s share of the aid Pakistan received in the past has been used to purchase military equipment. Many fear that this is actually “war equipment,” to be used against India.
