Obama Rejects Netanyahu Meeting

Even as the Obama campaign tries to recover from its anti-Israel blow-up at the Democratic National Convention, Barack Obama continues to undermine the campaign’s Jewish appeal. Today, the White House declined to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s request to meet President Obama in New York at the UN at the end of September. Fearful no doubt of having to come face-to-face with the man who shamed him before the American people on his perversely anti-Israel positions on Iran, Obama will instead skip the meet with Netanyahu – the first time a US president has rejected a meet with Netanyahu dating back to the Clinton years.

This week, Prime Minister Netanyahu ripped the Obama administration for refusing to set any “red line” on Iran’s nuclear program. “The world tells Israel ‘wait, there’s still time.’ And I say, ‘Wait for what? Wait until when?'” said Netanyahu, speaking in English. “Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don’t have a moral right to place a red light before Israel.

The last thing Obama wants is a public fight with Netanyahu during election season. And reports already say that Netanyahu will authorize an attack on Iran prior to the election if he believes that Obama will be re-elected, so as to avoid the possibility of a lame-duck president undercutting Israel. Ironically, Obama’s own intransigence vis-à-vis Iran’s nuclear program is driving Israel closer and closer to a military strike.
