Now that the US-backed sanctions resolution on Syria has failed in the UN, Republican lawmakers are pointing to what they see as a failure of leadership of Obama’s part.
Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) said, the “UN Security Council vote on Syria shows that the need for US leadership is more urgent than ever.” Senator Lyndsey Graham (R-SC) added: “I don’t think we’re doing enough. We don’t need to be covert. The last thing in the world America needs to is to hide from leadership.”
According to The Hill, a second resolution on Syria, one with fewer teeth (less force), was not even brought up for a vote following the veto of the sanctions.
The bottom line: Instead of projecting strength, Obama is projecting an absence of leadership.
