Let us listen closely to General Russel Honore’s warning. Lt General Russel Honore ( retired) gave the keynote speech at the 2011 NAPE luncheon in Houston, Texas. One purpose of the lunch was to raise funds for the Charitable Organizations “”Operation Finally Home”” and”” Canine Companions”” for Independence, both to support disable home coming troops. The lunch raised over $200,000 for these Charities. He was the Commander of Joint Task Force Katrina and now is a Global Preparedness Expert. He received a standing ovation before he began his talk.
Honore: preparedness means winning
His overall theme was Preparedness, both military and civilian. His point on military preparedness was well received. The talk is timely because the most of the men and women in Congress responsible for our
major Budget cuts have little or no actual military experience. General Honore”s main point is MILITARY PREPARDNESS IS BEING ABLE TO WIN THE FIRST BATTLE!!
General Honore noted that over 1.3 million Americans have died in wars to protect our Freedoms. In the American Revolution we were fighting the strongest army in the world. We did not have a professional army,
with large number who could read or write and twenty percent were slaves. We defeated the British because we were fighting for Freedom and the British were fighting for the King. After the Vietnam War there was to be a “peace dividend” and our military budget was cut substantially.
Honore: let’s learn the lessons of history
At Ft Hood, Texas, there were more tanks than the British and French had combined. The Military Budget cut was so drastic the Army at Ft Hood rode around in golf carts pretending they were tanks. It is essential that we support our volunteer military with an adequate military budget. Military Preparedness is having the ability to win the first battle.
Remember 1.3 million Americans in all our wars have given their lives to defend Freedom. We must support our volunteer military with an adequate Military Budget.
