LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An Iraq War veteran is almost home after walking more than 7,000 miles across the country to raise money for former soldiers who have fallen on hard times.
Troy Yocum is scheduled to arrive back in Louisville on Saturday after walking more than 30 million steps over 16 months and raising more than $500,000 along the way, according to WDRB-TV.
He said he got the idea after a friend who also fought in Iraq lost his job and home and became very depressed. Yocum says he’s walking to help his friend and others like him.
Donations are still being accepted at Yocum’s website.
