Call me crazy, but I think it must be hard for our military to shoot people and crush our enemies – which, after all, is the point of having a military – if our soldiers are busy laying bricks or nailing up boards or putting the finishing touches on the roof of a building instead of engaging in battle. Such humanitarian efforts are best handled by the Red Cross or a missions group, not by our fighting forces.
Yet to make matters worse, our troops are not only building buildings in the Middle East, they’re building Islamic Centers in Afghanistan. And as usual, in this era of political correctness and Obama-sponsored appeasement, they’re building such centers to prove “that the U.S. is not trying to change the Afghan people or their religion.”
Have the decision-makers forgotten we’re not in Afghanistan because the hotels in Florida were full?
We’re there in response to the 9/11 attacks. We’re there, ostensibly, to wipe the Taliban and Al Qaeda off the map. (Thus we don’t need to prove the kindness of our intentions to anyone.)
Nonetheless, our troops in Kandahar just finished spending “10 weeks converting an old building into a place of worship for Afghan Muslims.” Not only does that represent 10 weeks of our soldiers doing something other than what they were trained to do, but more importantly, it is an indicator of just how desperate we’ve become to make our enemies like us.
For goodness sakes, even U.S. Brig. General Jeffrey Kendall “[celebrated] the establishment of this center” as a place where Muslims can gather and “practice their faith in a solemn and reverent atmosphere.”
Meanwhile, in Texas another Jihadist in our military was caught before he could live out his faith in the same way Fort Hood shooter Maj. Nidal Hasan lived out his in 2009. After going AWOL from Fort Campbell in Kentucky, Private Naser Jason Abdo was arrested on July 28th in Killeen, TX, with bomb making components and apparent plans to blow up a restaurant frequented by soldiers from Fort Hood.
My guess is that he must not have known our soldiers spent two and half months building an Islamic Center in Kandahar.
Had he known, I’m sure he would have baked a cake for the soldiers at Fort Hood instead of making plans to blow them up.
