Anders Behring Breivik: The Psychology Of A Terrorist

If Leftist media outlets had their way, the whole world would be pinning the tragic shootings in Norway on the Tea Party. First Amendment notwithstanding, the Tea Party would be systematically dismantled by the FCC, the ATF, and big government. The Leftists would have you believe that the world would be safe of terror if the archaic world of Christian and Constitutional Conservatives were silenced, once and for all. The Machiavellian and Orwellian notion of eradication of ideas counter to those of the left who control politics and media is the essence of the Politically Correct movement, and they truly never let a crisis go to waste in attempting to fortify their accusations.

The manifesto left behind by the Norwegian killer, Behring Breivik, left little evidence of anything with remotely Christian or conservative underpinnings. He followed the teachings of Darwin, denied the divinity of Christ and the importance of relationship with Jesus as the conduit of salvation, he was pro-choice, and even admitted that he was at most a “moderate” Christian, if at all. The Left would have you believe that since he loathed radical Islam, he is like all anti-Jihadists: a terrorist capable of slaughtering the innocent.

Their reasoning is hopelessly flawed; conservatives need to set the record straight. Breivik’s slaughter of innocent Norwegians runs counter to his stated goals. While he claims to desire revolt against the government and its tolerance of radical Islam, his actions evidence the very opposite. The murders he committed will only arouse the control mechanisms of the state, which will create more laws and tighten the reins on its citizens. Mr. Breivik neglected the obvious: if one hates government, one does not perform the very acts that will induce governmental interference and control over one’s fellow believers.

Further, if he is a Christian, he was operating outside of the conservative values. You could not find a legitimate church in the country that would condone such acts in the name of Christ, or otherwise. Further, you would not find religious writings in Christian publications condoning such actions, even for the cause of expansion of the faith or even stopping heresy.

On the other hand, if you read radical Islam, Sharia law, or Jihadi manuscripts, you quickly find that radical Islam is working inside the established goals of the faith if the ultimate outcome is glory to Allah. This fact sharpens the already razor-like contrast between Christianity and Islam.

The Ten Commandments are all about individual freedoms, as part of God’s view of life as precious and redeemable. In no interpretation does the New Testament condone murder, theft, or stealing for the sake of leading others to Christ. By contrast, radical Islam allows any act that brings glory to Allah. To pin the opposition of such radical ideologies on the “opposer” as one in the same is flawed, at best. That won’t likely stop this administration, its cohorts in the media, or leftist pundits from trying to make a connection, and using the word extremist in the description of conservatives every time they mention them.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Breivik did not need to look far back in history to understand that terrorist activity such as that of McVeigh or 9/11 always results in bigger government. If he were a conservative, he would naturally oppose big government. If he were thinking sanely, he would have been able to deduce that his savage act would never result in his stated goals. The reality? He isn’t a conservative at all, he is a “fake” conservative (as many conspiracy sites have suggested), or he is insane and evil, and as a result, his political or religious affiliations are inconsequential.

Any psychologist can illustrate the vast chasm between a Jihadi terrorist who organizes and plans terrorist activities as part of a large effort to change the complexion of the World, and a lone, incoherent gunman whose rants are not only plagiarized, but clearly the rants of a madman.

Breivik should be punished to the full extent of the law, and all good people should call this exactly what it was–a sinister act committed against innocent people in Norway. The American media should resist the temptation to prey on this tragedy, precisely because it is the right thing to do; scavenging on their innocent lives is nothing less than despicable. The extremists will paint themselves as precisely what they are when they are willing to use the innocent loss of life to score political points. That behavior won’t be coming from the Right.
