USMC Vs. Nudists: Bare Naked Bathers Invade Amphibious Assault Training Ground

From the UK’s Daily Mail:

Any volunteers for Recon duty?

Marines are trying to stop bathers using an amphibious assault training ground in San Diego as a nudist beach.

The strip of sand at Gold Beach has becoming popular with sun seekers wanting to bare all after state park rangers cracked down on naked bathing at nearby sand spots.

But the Marine Corps said it does not want civilians, naked or clothed, on the beach that it uses to train recruits in amphibious assault.

The rise in people shedding their inhibitions at the military training ground, which is part of Camp Pendleton, has come as rangers have begun ticketing nudists on neighbouring beaches.

Two years ago a court ruled that the state had the authority to ban naked sunbathing at a nudist favourite called Trail 6.

Those wanting to strip off have ventured south in a bid to avoid the park rangers.

A Marine spokesman said: ‘Civilians without Department of Defense authorisation may not cross onto the Camp Pendleton side of the beach, regardless of their beach use intention.’

He told the LA Times that the Marine Corps was allowing the state park rangers to cross onto Gold Beach to tell beachgoers they are trespassing.

The military also does periodic patrols, the spokesman said.

Some nudists have claimed that rangers have been hiding behind bushes and spying on them with binoculars and camera while they have been on the military beach.
