It’s called the Future Attribute Screening Technology Mobile Module (FAST) project, sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security. And it sounds more than just a little creepy. The hope is to develop a technology for screening at airports and elsewhere that will detect an increased blink rate, and increased heart rate, among other factors, that indicates you are tense because of a planned attack. (Couldn’t you just be tense because you’re about to miss your flight?) The system has already been “field tested at an undisclosed location.”
I’m all for using advanced technologies in the name of national security but what does this mean for our Constitutional rights?
