If you can believe the “leaks,” in a speech Obama will deliver a few days before Netanyahu addresses a joint session of Congress next Tuesday, Obama will not put the PM on the spot. The Middle East is too muddled and Obama too confused for him to do that now. In turn, that will take the pressure off Netanyahu to offer the Arabs more “incentives” to get them back to the table. So that part of his speech can be written out and the PM can replace it with something else.
Here’s my suggestion:
“Let me tell you something personal. There are two Jews in distress, and they are always in my heart and in my prayers. One is held hostage by terrorists in Gaza, the other is held too long by the U.S. government. I am asking you, Israel’s dear friends in Congress, to do what you can to help Israel free Gilad Schalit and Jonathan Pollard and enable both men to return home to Zion.”
