So What Exactly Is the Goal In Libya?

Admiral Mike Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff just went on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and declared that the international coalition could achieve it’s goals in Libya and Gaddafi could stay in power in the end. “That’s certainly potentially one outcome.” Apparently the coalition is fighting to protect the Libyan people. But what does that look like? What does it mean? If Gaddafi plays nice and the coalition leaves, and then he starts attacking his enemies again, do we go back? It is still amazingly vague to me what the actual tangible objective is in Libya. I imagine that the Libyan rebels, who are ostensibly our allies in this, are puzzled by all of this too. They are not fighting for any other reason other than to remove Gaddafi from power. Better clearly state our goals and do so quickly.
