Israel's 'Love Police' Needs To Go

The United Nations (an organization which I distrust and dislike) recently issued a report condemning Israel. What else is new you might ask? They pretty much get it wrong every time. I’m one of those people who says Israel should not simply coexist with its enemies–it should be free to destroy them!

Although this time I think I agree with United Nations (ugh)–at least over one narrow issue.

It seems that Israel has very strict worker laws. If you are a foreign worker and are caught in a romantic relationship, you will be kicked out of the country. Huh?

Yes, you read that correctly. If you are a foreign worker in Israel, whether in agriculture or high-tech, you are their to work. That’s it. Apparently the Love Police will send you back home if you try to even steal a kiss.

The argument in favor of the regulation is that migrant workers might use a romance to gain admission into Israel. Might that happen? Yes. But the current approach seems to be completely over-the-top.

Israel has a right to protect its borders and its country. But if you are inviting workers legally into the country it seems to me their love life should not be regulated. Pass laws that restrict government benefits and prevent romance from being abused to gain admission into the country. But a Love Police? No thank you.

I’d like to hear from those who defend the policy. Tell me why.
