China has finally come forward to issue a condemnation of what’s happening on the Korean peninsula. Oh, wait a second. They’re not condemning North Korea for its unprovoked shelling of South Korea. They are condemning American forces in the region and long-planned exercises with the South Koreans. As a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman put it, “We oppose any act that undermines peace and stability on the [Korean] peninsula.” Nice words. Too bad they have not been publicly directed at Pyongyang.
Obama’s worldview, that hostility to the U.S. is based on our brash and insensitive manner, is being shaken by the events in Asia. The question is: will he change his worldview to conform to reality, or will he double-down and even further soften is stance towards our enemies and rivals in the hopes of “winning them over?”
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
