Colonel Allen West: A Class Act

One of the most important congressional races to watch tonight is in South Florida where Colonel Allen West is trying to knock off Congressman Ron Klein. Polls show West with a slight lead. The Palm Beach Post reported this on the last day of campaigning:

“While Democratic Congressman Ron Klein took to the streets — including the parking lots of various Publix supermarkets — shaking hands with voters, his GOP challenger Allen West spent the day at home with family.

‘Today I had time to reflect back on whole life,’ West said Monday evening at his campaign headquarters in Deerfield, his only campaign stop of the day.

He talked about his beginnings in an inner city neighborhood in Atlanta, his career in the U.S. Army, where he reached the rank of lieutenant colonel and now his run for Congress.

‘It is a testimony to the American dream,’ he told the cheering crowd of about 100 supporters.

His campaign manager, Josh Grodin, said volunteers made as many as 8,000 get-out-the-vote calls on Monday alone and knocked on many doors. He said West took the day not only ‘to spend time with family and to think’ but also to catch up on his work as a Defense Department contractor.

West encouraged the volunteers to keep on working until the last moment.

‘In 24 hours the polls will close,’ West said. ‘Like any good soldier will tell you, you have to finish the firefight.'”

HE’S RIGHT. LET’S FINISH THIS FIREFIGHT!
