Truly outrageous and evidence that we are in the silly season. From the Navy Times:
As the mid-term elections and the accompanying political cross-fire nears its climax, one of this season’s latest campaign trail controversies swirls around an unlikely object: a ship’s sweatshirt.
That gray sweatshirt was on the back of Duane Hammond, union stagehand and proud parent of a sailor, when he arrived early in the morning Oct. 22 to help set up the stage for President Obama’s rally at the University of Southern California later that day.
The problem began when the production boss noticed Hammond’s sweatshirt — a souvenir hoodie from the aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush, which, of course, bears the 41st president’s last name in bold — and told Hammond to replace it with a black shirt.
“So I asked them, ‘If I wear my sweatshirt inside-out, I can stay?’ Hammond told Navy Times in an interview. They said yes. Hammond replied: ” ‘Well you know what, I’m not doing it.’ There was no reason for me to be wearing [black clothing without labels used to blend in on stage] if we’re outside. It was a rally, for God’s sake.”
Hammond was sent home by the production company.
