Recently on Frank Gaffney’s Secure Freedom Radio, Frank was joined by Congressman Thad McCotter (R-MI) to discuss what will happen, come the 111th Congress, with the defense budget. If there is a new Republican majority, will the Republican Party lead the charge in cutting the defense budget in their attempts to balance the budget? What are the implications if this were to happen? Also, Congressman McCotter talks about how it is “mind boggling” to assume that any positive developments will come out of peace talks between the Taliban and the Afghanistan government.

McCotter on the Defense Budget:

“It would be disastrous for the Republicans to start adopting some neo-isolationism or to turn ourselves merely into a party of frustrated or angry accountants that are anywise upon foolish when it comes to national security matter in the United States. So, when you start too randomly or carelessly start to treat the Pentagon budget or national security matters in general as simply a place like any other you have to forget the role of these institutions lean they are to help defend the freedom of the United States against people who want to kill us. We also have to remember, most importantly that with men and women fighting and risking their lives to defend or liberty and advance liberty abroad is that those cuts cannot and must never impair their ability to do their jobs and return home to their loved ones.”

McCotter on Afghanistan:

“Its mind boggling to believe that by sitting them down with the government of Afghanistan that anything fruitful is going to come of this.”
