Editor’s note: this post is based in part on reporting by Scott Swett that appeared recently at American Thinker.
Imagine this scenario: It is December 31, 1944. American and Allied Forces are in a fierce battle with German troops, who have just taken Antwerp. Allied forces are valiantly defending Bastogne. In this month 19,000 Allied forces are killed and 75,000 wounded in one of the worst battles of World War II.
As Allied forces are regrouping for the next day’s bloody battle they get word that a sole American Senator has provided diplomatic safe passage for an American pacifist group to go behind Allied lines and bring medicine, blankets, food and unknown supplies to the very German troops that the Americans are fighting.
Couldn’t possibly happen, right?
Well, it did happen.
Not in World War II. It happened in the Iraq war.
In December 2004 a group led by Medea Benjamin and Jodie Evans, founders of Code Pink traveled from Amman, Jordan into Fallujah, Iraq to provide “humanitarian” supplies to Iraqi insurgents who, at that time, were fighting and killing American Marines. 51 Americans had been killed and 560 wounded in the US Marines’ heaviest urban combat since the Vietnam War at that time in Fallujah.
As Scott Swett recently reported, Code Pink, a radical leftist group that reviles American troops as terrorists and assassins while praising their enemies as freedom fighters, brought $600,000 in cash and supplies to enemies of the United States at the end of 2004, while war was fiercely waging. For years, Code Pink has viciously harassed wounded veterans and their families outside Walter Reed Hospital, even telling the mother of a slain Navy Seal that her son “deserved to die.” Code Pink actively supports terror groups such as Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, the Taliban, Hezbollah and al Qaeda.
Who was this sole Senator that provided a letter of request for diplomatic courtesy to the US Embassy in Jordan to allow safe passage for the group organized by Code Pink to travel from Jordan into Iraq. None other than the leftist Senator from California, Barbara Boxer, who, it seems, will do anything for Benjamin, Evans and their leftist Code Pink group.
Letters were also provided by Representatives Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) and Henry Waxman (D-CA).
Why would a sitting US Senator go out of her way to facilitate diplomatic arrangements for an American group to provide supplies to an enemy of the United States or their families, who at that very time were in combat with US troops? It doesn’t matter that the supplies, as Code Pink insists, may have been for humanitarian purposes. They were giving aid and comfort to people who were then killing and wounding Americans. It is well-documented that members of the families of the “other side” often acted as couriers for the those directly fighting against American forces.
By the way, Article III of the U.S. Constitution provides the following definition of treason:
“Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”
On returning home from their trip to Fallujah Code Pink founder Medea Benjamin told reporters:
“I don’t know of any other case in history in which the parents of fallen soldiers collected medicine … for the families of the ‘other side’,” said Medea Benjamin, the founding director of Global Exchange, a human rights group. “It is a reflection of a growing movement in the United States … opposed to the unjust nature of this war,” she said.
This must have pleased Barbara Boxer.
