We now have an official government action on the purportedly planned attacks showing that we are getting our money’s worth.
The State Department issued a highly unusual “Travel Alert” Sunday for “potential terrorist attacks in Europe,” saying U.S. citizens are “reminded of the potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems and other tourist infrastructure.”
One scenario authorities fear is a repeat of the 1985 attack on the Rome and Vienna airports, when Palestinian extremists threw grenades and opened fire on travelers waiting at ticket counters injuring 140 and killing 19, including a small child.
Now I don’t want anyone to think I am minimizing the danger of past or future attacks like this. it has always been my nightmare scenario that the terrorists would simply shoot up the food court at a mall in Des Moines and then just motor a couple hundred miles down the road and shoot up a school playground. You wanna talk about sowing the seeds of some terror in the heartland.
Mumbai was a horrific example of what a few marginally-organized and socio-pathic bastards can do. This scenario does not require a mastermind to unfold, it is pretty much terrorism 101.
1. Get guns and grenades
2. Go to public places and kill people
Not really rocket science they are conducting here. If you assume they are all gonna die in the attacks, then your planning is done, just fire and forget.
Whoever beat the info kindly obtained the intelligence that led to this kerfluffle out of some poor goat-herder terrorist scumbag, good on ‘ya. I hope we can make this an unbarking dog and scarf up any remaining bad guys for a trip to the Indian Ocean to do slow circles on a container ship.
